Feeding Fusspots

Cooking has never been a strength of mine (I get too impatient!) And I’ve actually just never enjoyed the process. The preparation, the cleaning, the waiting. Did I say I get too impatient? But I do have a goal for 2019 to overcome this.

My husband and I are considerably health conscious and try to eat a balanced diet – low in sugar and as natural as possible.

Our boys however, are soooooo fussy and I find it one of my toughest challenges trying to get them to eat good wholesome food, and make sure they’re getting all their nutrients.

Lucky for me, I’m in an era of the magical world of social media. I have obtained so much inspiration, encouragement and assistance from these platforms. Tips which particularly stand out and have helped me are:

  1. Involve Your Children: Include them in the process – from helping to choose ingredients at the grocery store, assisting in preparing and cooking (and don’t forget the cleaning up!) Yes this takes a whole lot longer, and we are time poor, but its truly amazing how much more interest they show, and how eager they are to try food which they have helped create, from start to finish.
  2. Make their plate a rainbow: Fill their plates with a variety of colours and textures. Persevere with this. Be prepared they may not try everything straight away but eventually they may. This presentation of a meal also gives them some control and choice which is important for their growing independence and development.
  3. Make a Mess: I’m a messy person at the best of times, but even I struggle with this. I really have to restrain myself from cleaning the table, their hands and faces, and the floor as and while the boys are eating. But its so important for them to enjoy and explore the food with all their senses.

Below are some amazing nutritionists/mums who I follow, and who have, quite literally saved me. Their recipes are wholesome, simple and nutritious, and Billy and Leo love them!!! Check them out for some inspiration, or if you have fussy eaters like me.
